GST Status Check
Check whether a GST registration is active, cancelled or suspended before you transact or claim input tax credit.
What each GST status means
Active
The registration is live. The taxpayer can legally charge GST and issue tax invoices, and buyers can normally claim input tax credit on those invoices.
Cancelled
The registration has been cancelled, either voluntarily by the taxpayer or by the department. A cancelled GSTIN must not be used to charge GST on new invoices.
Suspended
Registration is temporarily suspended, usually while cancellation proceedings are in progress. Treat invoices from a suspended GSTIN with caution.
Inactive / provisional
The GSTIN exists but is not in a normal active state — for example a provisional registration that was never completed. Confirm before transacting.
How to check GST status
- Copy the 15-digit GSTIN from the invoice, quotation or purchase order.
- Paste it into the search box above and submit.
- Review the registration status, legal name and state jurisdiction on the result page.
- Confirm the legal name on the result matches the name on the invoice before claiming input tax credit.
A GSTIN is 15 characters: the first two digits are the state code, the next ten are the PAN of the registered person, the thirteenth is the entity number for that PAN, the fourteenth is normally "Z", and the last is a checksum character.
