How to search a GST number online
Step-by-step: enter a 15-character GSTIN and read the registration record it returns.
Searching a GST number starts with the GSTIN itself. Every GST-registered supplier in India must print its 15-character GSTIN on tax invoices, so the fastest place to find one is the invoice header or the supplier's website footer.
Copy the GSTIN exactly as printed, remove spaces, and paste it into the search box on CheckYourGST. The number is checked locally for length, pattern and checksum before any lookup runs, so an obvious typo is caught immediately instead of returning a misleading "not found".
A successful search returns the current registration record: registration status, legal name, trade name where one is registered, taxpayer type, constitution of business, the state and its GST state code, and the registration date. Only fields actually returned for that taxpayer are shown.
If the result says the GSTIN could not be found, re-read the number character by character. Zero and the letter O, and one and the letter I, are the two mistakes that account for most failed searches. If the number is correct and still not found, the registration may never have existed.
